Problem:
I have a new computer with Windows 7. I cannot install First Class from
my CD, or I can install it, but I get an error message when trying to
open it.
Some older
CDs will not install First Class properly in Windows 7, and you may get an error message when trying to open the program. Even older CDs will not install at all, as they use a 16-bit installation program.
If you can install First Class but get an error message when opening it:
Try right-clicking on the desktop icon and choosing "Run as administrator" from the pop-up menu. If that works, you only need to do it once. From that point on, normal double-clicking on the icon will open the program. If that doesn't work, send a request for a download, as noted in the bottom paragraph.
After you open First Class, if the database is more than about 1½ to 2 years old, it would probably be faster to download a complete installation, rather than updating the database. You can send a request for a download, as noted in the next paragraph.
If you can't install First Class at all:
If you have a very old CD with a 16-bit installer, it might not install it at all. If that's the case, send a request to info@firstclass2.com
with your current database update password and a note stating
that you need to install First Class on a computer with Windows
7. We will set up a link to a download file that will install
the latest version of First Class, along with the current database.
